This department is responsible for both internal and external communications for the agency, and serves as the liaison to the OCFA Board of Directors, as well as its member-cities.
Overseen by the Director of Communications, this section is comprised of a PR Manager, three Public Information Officers (PIO), a Community Relations and Education Supervisor, five Community Education Specialists and a Multimedia Supervisor and two Specialist team.
This section is responsible for providing timely and accurate information to the public, media outlets, elected officials, and the OCFA Board of Directors. Corporate Communications provides support to the Fire Chief and Executive Management on special projects, as well as internal and external communications. The PIO ensures accurate and timely information is released to the public and media. Utilizing press releases, board advisories and our social media platforms, the PIO serves as the OCFA spokesperson, especially during major emergency incidents, as well as daily media requests.
The Community Relations and Education Supervisor oversees five Community Education Specialists. This group is responsible for large-scale educational campaigns and community outreach events. The group also promotes public awareness for safety campaigns, including drowning prevention, wildfire awareness, fire safety, disaster preparedness and smoke alarms.
Overseen by the Director of Communications and staffed by three Captains, the office ensures that the public is kept informed of daily OCFA activities, and during major emergency incidents. The PIO acts as the spokesperson for OCFA during daily requests from reporters as well as during major incidents. The PIO ensures that accurate and timely information is released to the public, and media. The PIO also assists with news releases, board advisories, and community outreach.
The Community Relations/Education team is responsible for large-scale educational campaigns and community outreach events. This group also creates messaging material and delivery systems to promote awareness of public safety issues. The most significant campaigns that educators are involved with include drowning prevention, wildfire awareness, fire safety, disaster preparedness and neighborhood smoke alarm installations.
This section is responsible for all OCFA's audio, video and photographic needs. Staff produces a monthly video newsletter, covers the firefighter academies, manages all audio and video for monthly executive committee and board of directors meetings, and designs a wide variety of OCFA informational material.
