Garden Grove Hazardous Materials Incident Unified Command Statement:

Unified Incident Command is pleased to report that the Garden Grove hazardous materials incident has been stabilized and all evacuation orders have been lifted.

Through the coordinated efforts of fire personnel, hazardous materials specialists, law enforcement, public health officials, and environmental specialists, all residents have safely returned home.

🚨 ALL EVACUATION ORDERS LIFTED 🚨

All evacuation orders related to the Garden Grove hazardous materials incident have been lifted.

Unified Command (Fire, Law, EPA, and County Health) have confirmed there is: >>>>

✅ No chemical leak
✅ No threat of explosion
✅ No threat of fire
✅ No risk to the public

Red circle = An exclusion zone to allow hazardous materials teams to continue monitoring the tanks out of an abundance of caution (no residents affected).

Effective as of Monday, May 25 at 6pm, the red shaded area represents the newest evacuation zone, while the red outline represents the previous evacuation zone.

We ask that you continue listening to law enforcement and do NOT enter the newly evacuated area.

Due to the threat of the BLEVE being eliminated, Fire & Law are re-evaluating the evacuation zones. Please do NOT enter the evacuation zones at this time. A press conference with more details will be at 6 pm at the Incident Command Post in Los Alamitos.

Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion (massive explosion) has been eliminated, there is still an ongoing threat to public safety. There is still no chemical leak, as verified by continuous atmospheric monitoring.

We have seen reports claiming there are multiple cracks on the tank. To clarify, there is one known crack on the tank. There is also peeling of the weather stripping on the exterior, but this is not an additional crack. There is currently no active leak, and continuous live >>>>

The IMT, in consultation with the EPA and OCHCA, has established the evacuation zone. Any areas outside of this zone are currently considered completely safe and day-to-day activities can continue as normal.

There are no further scheduled updates for tonight. Regular incident updates will resume tomorrow morning. Thank you to our community for your continued support.

There is understandable concern about an explosion as one of the possible outcomes. OCFA Division Chief Nick Freeman and Dr. CK, the Orange County Health Officer, provide an operational and health care perspective on the evacuation zones that account for that possibility.

There are no scheduled press conferences today. We will continue to provide incident updates throughout the day. The next scheduled update will be provided in the 9:00 hour.
