Holiday Fire Safety

Did you know that an ignited tree can be completely consumed by fire in 3-5 seconds and generates over 2,000 degrees of radiant heat? This holiday season, we are highlighting the importance of decorating your home in a safe, but still festive, way. From turning off electronic decorations when not in use to keeping candles at least one foot from anything flammable, keeping your home safe is easy!

While you begin to deck the halls this season, remember that holiday decorations cause more than $11 million in home fire damages each year. In addition to providing tips to safely decorate your home, we have tips for safely heating your home and maintaining electrical equipment year-round. As always, we also stress the importance of having working smoke alarms and a home fire escape plan.

We will be highlighting holiday safety tips on our social media pages, so be sure to follow along @OCFireAuthority! Also, our OCFA Kid’s Corner will be filled with activities that the whole family can enjoy.

It is our hope that you find these resources useful and fun! Please join us in giving the gift of safety by sharing these activities with your loved ones, friends, coworkers and the overall community this holiday season.
