Shelly Appleby
Shelly Appleby is a firefighter whose dedication, perseverance, and love for service inspire everyone around her. She first discovered her calling while serving as a California State Park lifeguard and later pursued a career in the fire service, taking fire technology classes, serving as an OCFA reserve firefighter, and completing a full-time firefighter academy before joining OCFA.
As a mother of four, Shelly balances her career with family life, sharing her passion for the outdoors through fishing and surfing with her children. At the firehouse, she enjoys the camaraderie and teamwork, especially the “big house” engine versus truck dynamic, and finds fulfillment in helping community members, often witnessing heartwarming moments, such as elderly couples’ love for one another.
Reflecting on her journey, Shelly shares, “It is a humbling process. Attach yourself to good, genuine people who are good at what they do. Put in the work.” Her commitment, perseverance, and values make Shelly Appleby a respected and inspiring member of OCFA.
