Obet Martinez
Obet Martinez is a Captain with the Orange County Fire Authority. Born in Mexicali, Mexico, he moved to the U.S. at age nine and grew up in Santa Ana and Westminster. He attended Westminster High School, where he played football and ran track, and went on to earn his A.A. from Santa Ana College. Obet lives in Huntington Beach with his family.
Before joining the fire service, Obet worked as a front-end supervisor at Costco. He began his firefighting career as a Reserve Firefighter with Santa Ana Fire before becoming a career firefighter and later joining OCFA during the department’s transition. Obet also serves as a Hazardous Materials Team Specialist and is part of FEMA California Task Force 5.
He values the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives and appreciates the variety and challenges each day brings. Outside of work, Obet enjoys spending time with his family, exercising, cycling, attending live concerts, traveling, trying new restaurants, and cooking spicy dishes like pozole and ceviche.
Obet encourages young people to value family time and respect their parents, and he advises fellow firefighters to embrace opportunities to grow professionally through special assignments and deployments. His dedication, skill, and compassion make him a valued member of OCFA and the community it serves.
