Nick Hernandez

Fire Apparatus Engineer

Nick Hernandez is a fire apparatus engineer whose experience, skill, and dedication have made him a cornerstone of OCFA’s technical rescue operations. He is one of the department’s original technical truck firefighters and proudly serves on FEMA’s California Task Force 5 US&R team. Among his most memorable deployments was responding to the Montecito mudslides, an experience he calls “once in a career.”

Nick’s greatest focus off duty is spending time with his family at their home in North Tustin, where he and his wife have raised three children. He also enjoys building custom hot rods and playing stand-up bass, bringing creativity and precision to his hobbies just as he does to his work.

Reflecting on service as a firefighter, Nick says, “Keep your enthusiasm. There’s a lot you need to do to keep others and yourself safe. You have to give back.” His dedication, skill, and commitment make Nick Hernandez a valued member of OCFA, inspiring both his fellow firefighters and the community he serves.
