Our People

Brian Yau
Captain Brian Yau is a dedicated leader with the Orange County Fire Authority, proudly serving at Fire Station 55 in Irvine. In addition to his work in the field, Brian previously held the prestigious position of Wellness and Fitness Coordinator for OCFA, where he oversaw the pre-academy, fire academy, and career firefighter fitness programs for the entire organization.
In that role, Brian played a vital part in supporting the health and readiness of OCFA’s more than 1,200 firefighters. His leadership contributed to a reduction in on-the-job injuries, the implementation of modern health and wellness programs, and the development of training that helped new firefighters remain strong physically, mentally, and emotionally throughout their careers.
Brian’s calling to the fire service was sparked by the events of September 11, which inspired him to dedicate his life to helping others. After earning his degree, a single fire science class at Long Beach City College — taught by an instructor whose passion was contagious — convinced him that the fire service was where he belonged. He immersed himself in training and education, seizing every opportunity to learn and grow, and ultimately joined OCFA as a firefighter.
What brings Brian the most pride is his family — his wife, a high school teacher, and their two young children. A lifelong San Francisco 49ers fan, he moved to Orange County from the Bay Area as a teenager and still carries that hometown pride.
Outside of work, Brian is passionate about the outdoors and enjoys sharing that love with his family through camping trips and adventures. He stays motivated year-round by trail running, mountain biking, snow sports, and competing in ultramarathons and adventure races.
Captain Yau’s leadership, passion, and commitment to firefighter wellness make him an invaluable member of OCFA and a true inspiration to those he serves alongside.
