Ben Gonzales

Fire Captain

Ben Gonzales is a seasoned firefighter and mentor whose decades of experience have left a lasting impact on the OCFA and the firefighters he works alongside. He began his career with the Santa Ana Fire Department, where he served in a variety of roles including firefighter, paramedic, engineer, PIO, fire captain, and as the first member of the SWAT medic team. After joining OCFA, Ben continued to share his expertise and dedication, earning recognition for his leadership and mentorship.

Ben has been a role model to countless firefighters, taking every opportunity to teach and instill his knowledge, skills, and professional values in those around him. His commitment to guiding others has made him a respected and influential presence within the fire service community.

Outside of his professional life, Ben and his wife Kathleen enjoy family life with their five children and five grandchildren. They are often found boating, golfing, fishing, and exploring the outdoors on camping or off-road adventures. His two sons-in-law also serve in the fire service, continuing the family’s commitment to public safety.

In a quick-fire round of favorites, Ben shares: he prefers trucks over engines, Station 75 is a favorite, his biggest role model is Battalion Chief Espinosa, his go-to meal at the firehouse is chicken pot pie, and his first call as a firefighter involved assisting a victim of a stabbing.
