Mike Summers

Assistant Chief of Emergency Medical Services

Chief Summers began his career with the Orange County Fire Authority in 1995 as a Paid-Call Hand Crew Firefighter. In 1997, he transitioned to the Santa Ana Fire Department (SAFD), where he worked through the ranks to Fire Captain. In 2012, Chief Summers rejoined the OCFA as part of the SAFD transition, advancing through the ranks — from Fire Captain and Battalion Chief to Division Chief of ECC and Division 5 — until his most recent promotion to Assistant Chief of EMS & Training.

Chief Summers is recognized as a local and state-wide leader for his service in a variety of arenas, including as a Task Force Leader on California Task Force 5, a Division Supervisor on the Orange County All-Hazard Incident Management Team, Vice Chair of the FIRESCOPE Incident Safety Subcommittee, a member on CAL-JAC OCFA Subcommittee, and as an instructor for various OCFA Captain Academies and Battalion Chief Academies.

The recipient of OCFA’s Medal of Valor, Chief Summers has an associate’s degree in Fire Technology and General Studies from Santa Ana College; a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Administration from California State University, Los Angeles; and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Columbia Southern University.

He resides in Orange County with his wife and their two children.
